Please read, sign and share our petition to the Obama Administration. Free and Open Source software is more collaborative, less expensive and more flexible. Let's stop the insanity and use FOSS in our schools. ==> http://wh.gov/Rz6C

Please tweet, like, share and email the policy in your area.

Thank you.

Hi all,
I saw this petition, and got excited, its to promote government use of GNU/GPL software in schools in the USA.

I hope they can get what they need. Maybe some people here are interested in this as well.

I would've imagined that with the economic downturn, more local governments and school boards would look into free software that runs great even on older hardware.

Then again, I'm sure MS and AAPL give out decent discounts (educational at least)

So basically, this is a petition to the U.S. govt. that public schools should start moving away from Windows and Macs, and basically all proprietary software, in favor or GPL software or free and open-source software. This would save a lot of money that could be put to good use, i.e. renovations, new schools, more computers, etc... It took me literally 2 minutes, so please, do show your support! There's almost half a month left to get 25000 "signatures"--so far there's been around 2000. Here's the link (note that it's a .gov website, meaning it's legitimate): https://petitions.whitehouse.gov/petition/promote-use-free-software-our-schools-libre-office-gimp-gnu-cash-and-other-gpl-software-which-cost/T1xGw1fZ Thanks for listening folks! Don't forget to spread this message! [You can just copy and paste this one].
