Install over 12.04 Fails

I'm trying to do a fresh install over 12.04 but it keeps failing at the same spot. It takes my options and name. It then grinds away for quite a while with the info/ status window going. Eventually if fails at black screen with text showing operation status. The only clear warning I see is:
3272.028710 BUG: unable to handle kernel NULL pointer at 0000004c

Not really a solution but a couple of trys with 12.04 lububtu got it loaded
