View Full Version : [ubuntu] Which version of Ubuntu should I install on an older laptop?

Hi everyone,

I have an older laptop (Dell Latitude D505) with a 1.4GHz Pentium M processor and 1 GB of memory. It's currently running Windows 2000 but I'd like to dual boot it with Ubuntu.

Since the newest operating systems don't tend to run that well on older hardware I was wondering what version of Ubuntu would be right for me. I notice that Warty Warthog was released at the same year my laptop was made so perhaps this would run the fastest on my PC?

Thanks and merry christmas,

Don't use versions that are no longer supported.

In the Ubuntu family, try lubuntu or xubuntu; they will probably work smoother on your hardware than Ubuntu. Also, either use 12.04 or 12.10 (11.10 support ends in april 2013 so you have to upgrade).

And there are plenty other options if it does not have to be an ubuntu family member.
