Many programs no longer working since 12.04 upgrade

Hello, All,

since upgrading from my very stable 10.04 system to 12.04 I continue to encounter problems. One of which are several programs no longer working. When I click to launch them I see the application launch then crash with no errors or information.

All these worked fine before the upgrade. Thoughts on where to start?

example programs:
Brasero (CD/DVD burner)
Quadrapessel (game)

Are they compatible with the newer version if Gnome ? Brasero should work if it updated to the latest version during the upgrade. The game listed is obsolete in 12.10 and that may be the case in 12.04 also.

Did you do an online upgrade or a fresh install? The latter is, in the opinion of many, often better.

You can check what happens by starting the applications from the commandline.
