After several weeks of annoying pop ups pestering me to upgrade my distro, I am now finally running 12.04. on our laptop.

With full Unity and no get out clause to "Ubuntu Classic".

I hate Unity.
No really, I don't like it very much. This I can deal with.

My girlfriend hates Unity. All my months of hard work showing her the true way are down the pan. She will now only boot into Windows. I tried installing KDE, which made me happier but she hates that too. Every time I see our laptop running that OS a little bit of me dies.

I know it'll be the office desktop next. It keeps telling me my release is no longer supported and I don't know what to do.

Please help before I take the other way out........

Seriously,

don't force anyone using linux. This only makes it worse.

Maybe one day when she experiences Windows 8, she remembers how nice Linux was... and then she will try it again.

Try a different desktop environment. Many people have become quite happy after their move to XFCE. You can get it separate or as part of Xubuntu. Give it at try, it is very unlike Unity.

Plenty of other DE's too choose from - try them.

If you want some pointers regarding that then post again.
