View Full Version : [ubuntu] Need recommendations for dual boot

Hello everyone, I am Ibrahim Jaffar.

I need some recommendation from this community guys. Currently i am using Window 7 operating system for my Lenovo laptop. Now i want to use Ubuntu OS with my current opearting system. How can i do that :confused:

I have 50 GB emply space on my harddisk for Ubuntu opearing system. But i don't know how can i install this to my laptop:(

Please help me out and give me some recommendations. If anyone provide me some screen shots that would be better to understand for me :KS

You can install Ubuntu along side Windows. When you start the install one option is to run along side Windows. It will install Ubuntu and leave Windows alone. It will set up the grub boot loader to dual boot Ubuntu or Windows. Which ever one you choose.
Try running the live DVD or USB first to make sure everything works OK.

Now i am going to install the Ubuntu OS on my Laptop as per "https://help.ubuntu.com/community/GraphicalInstall" recommendation.

Please suggest me about the s/w, which will be good to play music and videos?

software is already included in the os. if you need more there is software center you can use.

for videos maybe VLC is good. but ohers work too. depends what you want/need.

EDIT: I did most of these but didn't install gnome desktop. I am one that likes Unity with Cairo Dock which is in the software center.
