now that last.fm has become unavailable for me (the plague upon them!), what can i listen to?
i have a particular interest in listening apps, so i don't have to use my browser.
scrobbling is a good thing but not a must for me.
i have problems getting libre.fm to work - i can't get any kind of smooth radio mix experience even from within the browser, and there seem to be no working desktop apps. or player plugins.
is libre.fm still an alpha project???
radiotray offers some nice radio stations.
i tried streamtuner2 but it doesn't do anything. does anybody have experience with it? looks ver complex.
or generally just tips for good radio stations. (i like sonic universe, it's one of the radiotray defaults). preferably 100% music, no branding, no ads please.
what other (free) services make use of the scrobbling concept?
of course if someone knows any tips/hacks for last.fm, i'd be delighted to hear! ;) http://crunchbang.org/forums/plugins/ezbbc/style/smilies/devil.png

The thing about online radio stations is that there bazillions of them.

(i like sonic universe, it's one of the radiotray defaults)

As a starting point why not try out some of the other stations that somafm has

Try SHOUTCast Radio : http://www.shoutcast.com/

It's what I use for streaming music when my local library is feeling a little worn in. They have channels for every genre you can think of, and have an option to download the playlist files so you can stream music from your favorite media player. It works great in either Amarok or VLC Media Player! Some channels have advertisements, while others just remind you which station you're playing between songs.

thanks a lot - have tried more stations from those.
shoutcast seems to have to much to offer. somafm seems more sophisticated to me.
listening to sonic universe again....

SomaFM is what I listen to mostly, that and Pandora or Spotify. Also I use TuneIn on my Android phone and their website offers streaming too which is nice.

I've become quite fond of Pithos (http://kevinmehall.net/p/pithos/) lately.

I use Last fm via rhythmbox without scrobbling. The scobbling application only has a free trial period in the U.S and a few other countries. . The streaming protocol for Last.fm was changed on 12/1/2012 but I received updates that compensated around the same time.

thanks, and thanks again.
my collection is growing.
this is like in the old days, turning the dials...
"Schalten wir das Radio ein,
fährt es uns durch Mark und Bein.
Sender so zahlreich wie Sand am Meer
funken hinter unsrer Seele her..."
(Holger Czukay)
so this is what i came up with - bookmarks.xml for radiotray (http://codeviewer.org/view/code:2d6b).
Happy Winter Solstice Everyone!

installed rhythmbox, neither last- nor libre.fm plugin works.
i'm not too surprised that last.fm does not work (discontinued for listening in my country), but libre.fm should work? can you help?
