Linux for no powerful computers

Hi Comunity,

I would like to install Linux in a computer similar to this:

pentium 4 2.40ghz
with 256 ram and 32 of video.

Which Distro do you recommend?

Lubuntu would be an option, but 256 MB of RAM is very low. Another options would be Debian with a lightweight desktop such as LXDE or XFCE.

Thanks for your fast reply, I know that the Ram is small but the computer is 10 or 12 years old. But for Linux is enough.

My distro of choice for low-spec machines is always CrunchBang (http://crunchbang.org/).

Also have a look at Bodhi.

It uses the Enlightenment desktop which is very different to most DEs, but very, very quick and also attractive; it may take a bit of getting used to but could be worth it.

It uses the ubuntu repos so will work largely in the way that ubuntu and the family does, eg synaptic as package manager; uses sudo instead of a root password, etc etc.
