Aghh, been wasting my time. Then I guess I should start buying all sort of weapons... A flamethrower wouldn't be a bad idea.

Nah not the end. Just the point where the mayan 5k year calendar comes to its last point before looping back on the 22th. According to a Mayan elder (yes mayans are still around, spanish destroyed their writings and such they didn't kill them all off, a common myth, and granted disease did most of the killing anyway) the period is believed to mark the beginning of a new era of major change or something like that, according to him his ancestors didn't see the end of the era in the gloom and doom like many these days seem to see it as.
(Part: 1/3: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3v67pxeizXo)
(Part: 2/3: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wBbwA8HV3pE)
(Part: 3/3: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qvuk6h_tYuU)

Apparently part of the knowledge manage to be preserved through his family, most things about the mayan calendar, general knowledge, culture, etc is of course lost thanks to the spanish.

Have you seen Bellflower? Its an Indie film where the two main characters have a messy life, and in the process build a super duper apocalypse-ready car with accompanying flamethrowers

Hmm, no, I don't think so. Just thought if zombies were coming, a flamethrower would be the best weapon to eliminate them and burn the -possibly contagious- remains

Yes, I know. December 12th, 1912 is also 12/12/12. So is Dec. 12th 2112, Dec. 12th 2212 etc.

Actually, in the West's calendar, 12/12/12 only happened once. On December 12 in 12 AD.

So there!

But it's all horrendously arbitrary and things have changed and been adjusted. I don't suppose the people walking around on 12/12/12 even realized it was 12/12/12 according to people talking about it on 12/12/2012.
