I must be OCD, or something... because I'm having a horrible time finding wallpapers that are not distracting, and do not make me feel "trapped." I've been to all the major wallpaper websites... InterfaceLift, DeviantArt, Vlahd Studios, etc. Is anybody else as hypersensitive to their wallpapers as I am, and is there a solution? It doesn't help that many of my wallpapers which look great in Windows, just don't look that great in Unity.

Maybe its time to create one yourself - with all the wonderfull tools at your disposal while sitting in front of the computer it should be a rewarding experience...:)

Maybe Solid Colours, or Simple Gradients wouldn't be too distracting? Something bright, would make you feel more open.

Run this command to get some candidates.
$ wget -c www.futuredesktop.com/tmp/wallpaper.tar.gz

I took this last week when in Alcochete, near Lisbon. The great bridge of "Vasco Da Gama" at the distance. Nice as wallpaper.

One of your problems may be that you are using 12.04 and it's hard to find a good looking Precise Pangolin. My solution for myself was to install13.04 since Ringtails are cute little creatures with a greater potential for an appealing desktop even when they are raring. I also installed Gimp so that I could customize to my liking.

Personally I don't see the point of putting a wallpaper:
- I never see it (with 60 windows always open on top, which even open by themselves on boot)
- when I connect via VNC to a system that has a wallpaper, it's 20 times slower to display the page
- it wastes memory
- and _if_ you see it, it's distracting.

This being said, I have many penguin wallpapers (http://www.gdargaud.net/Photo/Background.html) on my site, leftovers from the 90s...
