I'm trying to compile a list of (around 5 to 10) websites that Ubuntu Community treat as source of news or information. Maybe we can make a poll after that. Websites that I usually go to are: NewsForge.com (http://www.newsforge.com), OSnews.com (http://www.osnews.com), and ArsTechnica.com (http://arstechnica.com/index.ars).

EDIT:

The list so far:
Linux.com (http://www.linux.com/)
LinuxTimes.net (http://www.linuxtimes.net/)
DistroWatch.com (http://distrowatch.com/)
SlashDot.org (http://slashdot.org/)
NewsForge.com (http://www.newsforge.com)
OSnews.com (http://www.osnews.com)
ArsTechnica.com (http://arstechnica.com/index.ars)

I've added LinuxTimes to the list. But at the moment having doubts about adding LXer. Reasons:

How about Linux.com? They have no reason to be doubted!
*snicker*
(in case you missed out, the've recently started advertising MS products. While that's not a BAD thing, and it's kinda ironic, those who provide funds have a lot of content control. MS says "I think you should pull that article, or we pull funding" then it gets pulled)

So yeah, that's a site NOT to add to the list.

I think you've hit all the major ones honestly. You may want to put up sourceforge and freshmeat, just for the HUGE amounts of software you can get from them. That's technically information, but I'm not sure if it goes beyond the scope of what you want to do.

I visit lxer.com all the time and I have no idea where this notion that it publishes FUD comes from. In the main the news is good and the articles are interesting and intelligent. If you visit Lxer you will notice that the offending article mentioned above received 13 negative votes (in fact 100% negative) from members so it is obviously a provocative outlier and not representative of the site. IMHO Newsforge is engaging in FUD to try to dicredit a competitor. NOT COOL
