After installing some updates and restarting, I cannot login anymore. After I enter the password, the screen goes black for a short while and then comes back to login screen.
tty mode does not work (ctrl+alt+F1-6, blank screen).
I booted into text-only mode (text option in grub), ran dpkg-reconfigure and also removed/installed lightdm and gnome-session. But everything is still the same.
Any ideas what is wrong?

Edit: no I cannot login as guest either. Also tried creating a new user, no difference.
