I'm on an HP Mini 311, when I hold shift at startup, grub loads, and then the OS choices show up. The only OS I have installed is Ubuntu 10.04, but there is also recovery mode and memtest in the options. When I select 10.04, I get the blinking cursor of death, and when I choose it in recovery mode, I get a bunch of code then the cursor of death. Memtest loads fine, Ubuntu loads well from the live USB. Also, here is my boot info:

Is there maybe a command or something I can enter fix grub to fix this problem?

If you get a grub menu, then you have booted thru grub and boot script does not really help.

Have you tried nomodeset or any other boot parameters?
What video do you have?

How to set NOMODESET and other kernel boot options in grub2
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1613132
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BootOptions

When booting without splash or quiet & see the drivers being loaded, do you see any obvious errors. Where it stops is not usually the issue often checking battery whether you have one or not, but some driver not loading earlier in the process.
