Hi. I have a System76 Lemur Ultra Thin (lemu4) notebook PC and I switched back to Ubuntu 12.10 64 bit as my default and primary operating system of choice from OpenSuSE 64 bit Tumbleweed. I wanted to continue to receive full support from System76 for the next year and a half just in case I run into a problem.

This Christmas 2012, I have a holiday shopping list for myself and I would like some opinions as to which ones I should get on my list. I am also open to some new ideas with specific recommendations. I do most of my online shopping on Amazon although I have shopped at J&R, B&H Photo, Video, and NewEgg along with HeadRoom Corporation. This is a technology focused holiday shopping list.

Here's what I am considering to get for myself:

1. Phiaton 210 BTNC:

2. Kingston Digital 128 GB Class 10 SDXC:

3. Seagate Momentus XT 750 GB with 8 GB SLC NAND FLASH SSHD:

My budget is under $150.00 USD.

Let me explain my reasons for picking these items. I am interested in the Phiaton 210 BTNC because I have the Intel Advanced-N 6235 802.11 B/G/N 2.4 and 5.0 GHz Wi-Fi along with Bluetooth 4.0 in my System76 Lemur Ultra Thin (lemu4) notebook PC. I should be able to pair the Phiaton 210 BTNC so that I can listen to my music without having a physical connection to my laptop. I have over 363.00 GB of mostly .FLAC loss less audio files totalling in excess of 13,550 songs on my Western Digital My Passport 2.00 TB Super Speed USB 3.0 Portable hard disk drive. I also have over 405.2 GB of compressed DVD-Videos totalling 443 movies in .m4v format. Currently, I have a high end audio system, but it is in my bedroom. I can not carry it with me on the go. I have the Sennheiser HD-650 and Grado SR-60i headphones and Ultimate Ears Ue-10 PRO custom in ear monitors. All of these headphones and earphones require that I connect them to my audio system at home or to my laptop directly. I frequently move around at home and especially when I travel abroad which means that I am tethered to my home audio system or my laptop. Bluetooth 3.0 has a range of 33 feet and it is wireless. The reviews for this product have been positive for the most part according to my research. It also comes with a traditional 3.5 mm cable to connect it to an audio source if the lithium polymer battery runs out of juice. It comes with noise cancelling technology which is another benefit.

The Kingston 128 GB SDXC is compatible with my System76 Lemur Ultra Thin (lemu4) notebook PC and if I purchased it, then I would plan to use it to store my digital picture library. I currently have 3.0 GB of pictures and I usually download dozens of new pictures daily.

The one that I am most interested in is the Seagate Momentus XT 750 GB with 8 GB SLC NAND FLASH SSHD. I currently have two solid state drives: 1. Crucial M4 SATA-III 128 GB MLC NAND FLASH inside my System76 PC and 2. OCZ Vertex 3 SATA-III 120 GB MLC NAND FLASH in an external Super Speed USB 3.0 disk drive enclosure. I find myself running out of available disk space because I create and use a lot of guest virtual machines. I have Microsoft Windows 8 Pro 64 bit in a 64.4 GB VMDK file along with other associated files in my Virtualbox VMs folder. I would like to create more guest virtual machines for Red Hat Fedora 64 bit, OpenSuSE 64 bit Tumbleweed, PC-BSD 64 bit, and Microsoft Windows 7 64 bit, but I don't have the available disk capacity to store them on a single volume. What I really mean is that I am looking for a high performance internal hard disk drive designed for notebook PCs with a 2.5" and 9.5 mm form factor. If I did get the Seagate Momentus XT SSHD, then I would be willing to re-install Ubuntu 12.10 64 bit and my handful of paid and premium software applications from scratch using full-disk encryption. According to my research, the Seagate Momentus XT is able to offer quasi solid state drive performance at a fraction of the cost along with a capacious capacity at an affordable price. The downside is that I would have to execute Ubuntu and my most frequently used software applications at least 3 - 4 times for the 8 GB SLC NAND FLASH to cache it in order to see the significantly improved performance which I am willing to tolerate in order to gain a massive increase in available disk capacity. If I do go with this option, then I would also purchase an inexpensive external 2.5" 9.5 mm Super Speed USB 3.0 disk drive enclosure to house my Crucial M4 SSD so that I can continue to use it in the future.

What other suggestions do you recommend that I consider in a similar vein?

Does anyone here have a Seagate Momentus XT 750 GB with 8 GB SLC NAND FLASH SSHD? If so, then can you tell me how is the reliability and the performance of this internal drive? I am keen on knowing how it compares with SATA-III SSDs in particular.

Thank you.
