unable to install ubuntu 12.10 on Packard bell netbook

Hello Guys,

we have just bought a new netbook Packard bell where windows 7 starter was already installed. We were not very happy about it so we decided to install ubuntu 12.10 (32bits) using the flash disc as a boot disc. We allowed ubuntu to be installed as it asked us if we just want to try it or to install it. The whole installation toke more than one hour and at the end as we switched the computer on we realized that ubuntu doesn't run. There was just a black screen (not even a logo from ubuntu) with some errors, etc.
So we made a new installation one more time again - downloading ubuntu 12.10 (64 bites) it was written that this system can normally work with windows 7 which we did not remove. But the result after installing from flash disc was the same as at the fist time... So we really don't know. Can it be somehow blocked from Windows that it doesn't allow us to run ubuntu. Can somebody help what to do? We are just a simple users who can not program.

Welcome to the forums!

Did you "Try" Ubuntu before you decided to "Install"? That is the purpose of the Try mode: to evaluate whether or not Ubuntu will work on your hardware, so you can make an informed decision whether or not to commit to an install. Recommend that you do so now and report back to us.

If you post the specific model of your netbook and/or use the forum Search feature, you may be able to get some help with your graphics issue. Some graphics cards work fine in Ubuntu, some require special commands or installation of special drivers, and some simply don't work well at all.

no we didn't "Tryed" ubuntu before we decided to install. We thought it would not be necessary as we have had ubuntu on all of our three computers and ubuntu was running (till the version Carmic Coala) perfectly. Ap 11th version it makes only mistakes on the other computers too. On Acer netbook for example we see just the half of the screen when ubuntu starts up. We thought "try" is just for the people who don't know ubuntu yet and want to try it firstly.
We would really like to stop using windows 7 on that netbook. What can we do to be able to install ubuntu there?

We are sitting at the airport right now so we "Tryed" ubuntu from flash disc on my older acer netbook and it was normal running. The problem is with my husband's packard bell - it does not run if we click on "try" it shows only a black screen and "stoped" So ubuntu does not maybe work with packard bell computers (this netbook is a new version, maybe two months old) Is there some possibility how to get ubuntu in it?
Also the old Acer netbook (we use it 3 years already) was working perfectly before upgrade 12.4. After this upgrade it doesn't normaly run or shows it only the half of the desktop. Can we repaire it somehow?

One problem per thread is preferred otherwise we all get too confused. Which do you want to work on and what is the issue. Each system may have totally different issues.

If video issue. What video card/Chip? I really only know nVidia as that is what I have.
