Been running ubuntu 10.04 on this laptop for while now and just recently after an update my wired connection stopped working. I had a couple other updates pop up since this has happened and it works occasionally now.

Basically what happens is that you plug it in and the lights on the port turn yellow and red, and it never shows the connection.

Any idea where to start?

You should probably start by looking if you get an IP address assigned (probably not) and see what is in the system log file.

Which log file do I need to check? I don't see any sort of system log anywhere...

I'm pretty sure I'm not getting an IP address, as it doesn't appear that the adapter is even working...

In stead of troubleshooting you could also do a fresh install of X/Lubuntu 12.10 (or Xubuntu 12.04, if you want long term support).

As 10.04 is running out of support in less than half a year, you have to reinstall anyway.

Seeing as though 10.04 worked perfectly on this laptop for a couple of years now, I'd like to see if I can get this issue fixed. Thank you for the suggestion though.
