Problem on startup - hangs up.

Help.

I have been using Ubuntu since 8.04 but I don't consider myself knowledgeable in the inner working of the OS.

I have a Dell D620 laptop running Ubuntu 12.04. I did an Update last night using the Update Manager. When I did a restart it hangs as it is detecting
my USB port.

How can I fix that? Do I have to reinstall Ubuntu?

I am now rebooting from my Live USB to get to the internet.


Any help woul be appreciated.

Is there anything connected to the USB ports? Maybe disconnect unnecessary devices and see if it fixes the problem.

I have my cordless mouse connected and webcam. I'll try and with nothing connected to the usb.

I tried with no usb device connected, same problem.
