I want to install Tor but my newbieness is keeping me from sucess. Tor documentation states "Do not use the packages in Ubuntu's universe' so there is knowledge required that I don't have. I was able to find out the name of my distribution using the documentation but finding and modifying the /etc/apt/sources.list file is a roadblock.
How can I install Tor with needed stability and security fixes?
Happy Thanksgiving!

The Tor browser bundle is probably the easiest and safest way to use Tor.

Just download it, unzip it and start the shell script.

It's available here:

I had not used tor until I Read your thread . I downloaded the 30 mb package from the site, right clicked and selected extract here. Next, I opened the folder and double clicked start tor browser script and it installed and started.

I downloaded the bundled, extracted the files and when I click on Start Tor Browser I get a text file. One time I got an error message about Vidalia. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. I'll keep trying.

Success! Thanks for the help guys. I don't browse unless I'm using Tor so I really needed this.
