Hello all!

I just bought a nice new 240 gb SSD to replace an ailing(5+ year old) HDD I used as a temp for my new(ish.. built last year) system.

I'm currently running 11.10 64bit on my old HDD but I figured clean install, start fresh... Which OS do I want more? 12.10 or 12.04? 12.04 seems like it will have support for a longer time than 12.10 but doesn't have the goodies... as someone who is on 11.10 will I notice much of a difference?

How is the install for 12 onto an empty SSD? I'm seeing posts citing difficulty with installation/booting up...

THANKS!

Since you're not running an LTS version now I'd go for 12.10 and have the latest. But it depends on your system. If you have the bandwidth you may want to try 12.10 first and if you have problems that you feel are hardware realted go for 12.04. 12.04 is an LTS version and been around for 7 months now so many of the bugs will have been either resolved or solutions found. Especially since you have two drives now, testing is easier.

I've not installed onto an SSD but I personally haven't seen tht many issues with it.

Hello, I have Kingston hyperx 3k 120gb ssd, too. I am planning to install Ubuntu 12.10 on this ssd. After that, what things should I have to do like maintainence the ssd? For example, trim. I don't know if it is enable automatically or not necessary for this ssd. I am noob to linux. Any help is appreciated.
