unity (game engine)

i have a game programing training thing that is coming up at my school and i am pretty sure that we are going to use unity. does unity work for Ubuntu. i know that the windows download wont work because of direct x what about the mac version?? am i just wasting my time??

The games can be saved as an executable that runs in linux but the editor to create the games is not available on linux. Aslo I don't know what the mac version requires.
