I find myself behind a bit of an 8 ball. I'm running 12.04LTS, which is great. My chipset will not support Unity3D, and 12.10 does not support Unity2D. However, I have to upgrade to 12.10 because I need a current version of a program in the KDE4 kit and 12.04 runs an older KDE4. I am unable to simply upgrade the single program ( gwenveiw ), so now I'm facing upgrading to 12.10 which I can't run using Unity. Unity2D was enough of a problem for my system in 12.04 that I switched to Cairo Dock and that has been fairly awesome. What I'm wondering is if I upgrade to 12.10, will I still be functional using Cairo Dock or am I just going to implode my entire system?

llvmpipe is supposed to take the place of 2D in 12.10. You might find some info in this link. It's used so all users can run 12.10. It should install by default, but I'm not sure about that.
