Does anyone know of any guides on how to design a gnome-shell theme from scratch? I plan to design a Gnome-Shell theme based on the elegant look of the cover of Frank Herbert's Dune (and the sequels), but when I search DuckDuckGo or Google for it I only get guides on installing them.

Here are a few links. Gnome is up to 3.6 so I don't know what is still applicable.

That appears to be for theming GTK3 window themes, not the shell theme. I'm talking about shell themes like Zukitwo, Elegance or SLAVE.

This post includes a command to view the css which you will have to learn how to write and that is true for GTK themes as well and that is why the links. http://forum.pinguyos.com/Thread-Anyone-wants-to-be-a-GNOME-Shell-theme-maker

The Elegance shell which I use most of the time is more complicated than other themes. If you are a beginner download the package and take a look in the folder and see how the theme is put together. It's easier to view another's work than it is to write a css from scratch.
