People keep losing laptops at Nasa and they are afraid private information might get exposed....

If they were using Ubuntu it would be very easy to encrypt their personal data.

Or any other OS really. People in a lot of organisations need to encrypt their laptops, these stories pop up all too often.

I would imagine at least some parts of NASA do have tighter security on their IT, because they work closely with the US military so would have to comply with their standards.

Easiest way round this problem is to stop issuing employees with laptops in the first place. Workplace computing only!!!!!

Might slow down developments , but at least it's perfectly safe. ;-) ;-)

Same goes for any other OS out there, nothing special about ubuntu in this regard. Another bunch of fud which contributes nothing to linux.

Encryption? Yes. But NASA needs to realize that there a ton of people who would love to get their hands on that sort of information.

Wildly impractical for an engineering organisation. You need to be able to go plug into things.
