My laptop came with cyberlinks powerdvd on it. the new ubuntu upgrade to 12.04 lts fails to recognize my wireless card. i have read there are software packages in the software center to help but i cannot download anything until i uninstall powerdvd. i have tried to do so from the Software center manually but it always brings up an error. any help would be appreciated

You already posted on this in another thread -- why are you posting this again? Posting the same thing over and over is not going to get better responses.

Sorry but I don't see a relation between cyberlink powerdvd and error with software center. As far as I know, powerdvd is just a media player application for windows, while the wifi problem you mentioned is happening in ubuntu.

Are you running ubuntu from a wubi installation (installed 'inside' windows)? Can you please elaborate on what is happening and what is the exact error message you are getting?

For collecting and providing us details about your wifi settings please follow this post : http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p=12350385
