my old laptop info is in a link in my sig
i have it upgraded to its max of 4gb ram

i was looking at this one
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834230531
i know 2.3Ghz of sandy bridge will run circles around my Athon II at 2Ghz (and the trinity APU laptops are too pricey, unlike there desktop counterparts)
but i don't know how my gefore 8200m (nvidia 310.14) compares to the Intel GPU on open source drivers
i want to know what OpenGL version I would have on it and which performs best
i would transplant my current HDD (xubuntu 12.10) (320gb wd black edition) after removing my resolution fix and purging my nvidia driver

edit: went ahead and ordered it, on windows it has opengl 3. something that should be enough since most stuff needs 2.0 min and the newest is 4.3, the cpu is much better than what i have
edit:
http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/gaming-graphics-card-review,3107-7.html the GPU is better on the intel chip

you might consider just installing an ssd and updating the ram. i got an ssd for $60 and ram is cheap. Maybe use a lighter desktop like xfce. Might be worth your time.

ram is not the issue i have 4gb of crucial ram (max the board supports)
the CPU is just too slow for my taste (i got used to my phenom II x4 965)
i am using xubuntu 12.10 no compiz

it has 8 CPU scaling frequencies:
2.3GHz, 2Ghz, 1.8GHz, 1.6Ghz, 1.4GHz, 1.2GHz, 1GHz, and 800MHz

mouse behaves just as the manual describes

edit: stable drives are better here
