Hello,
I have a 5 year old Compaq Presario V3000 laptop , since it only has a 1GB RAM , I decided to install Lubuntu 12.10, I first installed Cheese software to see if my webcam is detected. It worked perfectly. I have the Logitech Quick Messenger Plus Webcam . Then I installed Skype. and in the Skype window after logging in , I went to the Skype options and clicked Video Devices. It just shows a black Screen with no image. I then ran cheese also but same result .
so does that mean that the webcam is not detected in Skype ? And if so, what steps do I need to take to resolve this issue ?

Hi,
try starting skype in a terminal and post any errors that are reported when you try to use the webcam.

Hello,
I get this warning on terminal when I start Skype from terminal but I doubt this has something to do with the webcam :
ajayram@ajayram-Presario-V3000:~$ skype
** (skype:3418): WARNING **: Invalid borders specified for theme pixmap:
/usr/share/themes/Lubuntu-default/gtk-2.0/images/null.png,
borders don't fit within the image
** (skype:3418): WARNING **: Invalid borders specified for theme pixmap:
/usr/share/themes/Lubuntu-default/gtk-2.0/images/scrollbar_vertical.png,

** (skype:3418): WARNING **: Invalid borders specified for theme pixmap:
/usr/share/themes/Lubuntu-default/gtk-2.0/images/scrollbar_vertical-sel.png,
borders don't fit within the image
And in the options -> Video Devices , I still see a black screen. I received a Skype call and talked for some time, there I tried to switch on video, but the other persons at the end of the line could see no video. Also the audio quality was not very good. It was too soft. Then I tried a Skype test audio call only when I m very near to the laptop ie bending forward near the machine I can hear my own voice. Otherwise, if I sit upright and speak, I cannot hear my own voice. I am not able to locate the microphone settings in Skype,
Also other than the warning message posted above, there were no other error / warning messages on the terminal . Could someone please help me out ?

Did you ever work this out? Or develop an easy workaround? I'm having the same problem.
