hello,

I am trying to get ubuntu on one of my old laptops. I tried 8.04 but the lan did not work (I found a way on forums how to get wlan working but I need to get LAN working first). I thought a newer version might help so now there is 11.04 running on the thing. There is the same problem with LAN. could you please help me? I am trying to get rid of all windows copies left anywhere in my house.

lspci:

00:04.0 Ethernet controller: Silicon Integrated Systems [SiS] SiS900 PCI Fast Ethernet (rev 91)

I have got no idea how to get it working. When I plug the cable in, the circle starts turning so I think it is trying to get an IP from DHCP but then it stops and I get a Disonnected message..

I would appreciate if anyone is willing to help me. Thanks.
