Hi all,

I upgraded from 12.04 to 12.10 and now seem to have lost unity, the windows manager and the video drivers. I have no launcher or top panel and the borders and decorations are missing from all windows. I have reinstalled the drivers (md-driver-installer-12.6-legacy-x86.x86_64) but can't get them activated. Any ideas how to get a normal desktop back. TIA

Problem solved...the fglrx driver appears to be installed by the upgrade process and conflicts with the proper drivers. I was aware of this problem because it seems to occur with every upgrade (why?). However, there were many other issues and I was unable to get a GUI/CLI to remove the drivers. Finally found my way to Synaptic under Gnome and was able to use the GUI to remove the fglrx drivers. All is well...
