I was trying to upgrade to 12.04 LTS, but the upgrade froze in the process (it was stuck for over 8 hours) and I had to do a hard reboot. Now when I boot up, I get the following: /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libc.so.6 version 'glibc_2.14' not found I'm not sure what I need to do from here. Do I need to go back to the previous version? Or can 12.04 still be installed? I don't want to lose any of my files.

I am still fairly new to Ubuntu, so please give detailed step-by-step instructions.

try to continue upgrading, using the boot recovery mode then selecting repair packages (hold "shift" key down at bios end process to get the boot menu)

but im not sure about the final result. If it fail, then do a clean fresh install.

I have tried to boot in recovery mode, but no such luck. So I am unable to repair. Any other suggestions?

If I have to do a complete install again, how would I do that? Would I just download from the CD? How would I backup my files if I do a complete install?

You may be able to retrieve your files with the live cd.
