can I opt out of password for login???
I am having keyboard issues, along with just getting turned on.
Packed netbook around hitch-hiking and now starting to have issues.

Yes, you can -- but the place to do so differs from one GUI to another and I'm using Xubuntu, which is different from the (several( interfaces in plain Ubuntu, so someone else will have to give you the details...

Once you're logged in, click your name in the upper-right corner of the screen and hit "User Accounts". With the user you want to log in automatically selected on the left, turn on Automatic Login.

Sam, you might want to think about backing up your data, as your machine may be close to fail.

Thanks for this suggestion to get to the User's Account.
Also for the one right below for backing up; already a good start on that from other issues.
