Updates that came in during Sandy killed all video, I can only remotely telnet or SSH into the Ubuntu 12.04 server now. First the original 12.04 update killed sound so badly I've never gotten it back, now the display is gone! Ubuntu really hates Nivida don't 'they'. Hmm, looks like X never started, started it and got a blank screen with the cursor arrow. Rebooted got the normal start-up screen, but it won't take my password (works fine remotely via telnet). Now what? I tried:
LXDE
Recovery Console
Ubuntu
Ubuntu 2D
none will let me logon directly, my password only works remotely! My password works (remotely), I have only two logons in the normal Ubuntu screen: Brian Wallace and Guest. Guest works but because it's Guest without a password I can't really do anything like start MythTV which was what I'm trying to do! What's the best option here? How do I add a logon to the normal Ubuntu start-up or does it do it with the old adduser?
