I just want a good plasma widget to show me the current DOW, S&P and Nasdaq indexes. Any recommendations?

I have no personal experience, but could you go here:
http://kde-look.org/content/search.php
and search the descriptions for stock in the plasmoid binary type?

Well the Stock Quote widget in the repos can display S&P (^GSPC) and NASDAQ (^IXIC) just fine, but the Dow Jones Industrial Average (^DJI) doesn't work.

edit: Okay, their site quit crashing now. I still can't figure out how I'm supposed to compile these things.

So can someone else tell me if the stock quote widget causes problems for them? This might be a bug or something. NASDAQ (^IXIC) and S&P (^GSPC) work but the Dow Jones Industrial Average (^DJI) doesn't.

Okay, so this (http://tinyurl.com/bchugj4) is why the Dow doesn't work. Stupid Yahoo! Any stock plasmoids that DON'T use Yahoo! to get their ticker info?

Bazinga! I found a way. Use the web slice widget (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=12349690#post12349690)! You can get it to embed the little ticker on Google's Finance page into a widget on your homepage.

The URL is https://www.google.com/finance

You want #sfe-mktsumm as the element.

Now my desktop keeps me up to speed on the world around me just nicely. That was my goal. Now I've got RSS news, weather and the markets right there on the desktop. Cool huh? (In case you're wondering, the weird background is from a videogame which, sadly, doesn't run on WINE.)
