Codeweavers is giving away CrossOver for Linux for FREE this Wednesday, October 31st, 2012 for 24 hours. You get 12 months of support for free too. I have a two year subscription that cost me $90 USD. I use this free libre open source software application to install, configure, and run Microsoft Windows software applications. It's much easier than WINE. It's based upon WINE as a matter of fact.

Try it for free!

Codeweavers CrossOver for Linux allows you to install, configure, and run select Microsoft Windows software application native on GNU/Linux. It is based on WINE, but it has a useful graphical user interface to make things much easier to install and run Microsoft Windows software applications on GNU/Linux. It's easy to use and it comes with tons of pre-built bottles so that installation and execution are simple and easy. You don't need to figure out anything on your own.

Run Windows on Mac and Linux, easily and affordably (http://www.codeweavers.com)

This website will tell you more information about specific Microsoft Windows software applications including details and tips and tricks to make it work properly. It will also tell you what is compatible and it will tell you the medal award rating for each one. It's a gold mine of information and data.

Codeweavers CrossOver for Linux adheres to FLOSS. Rest assured that every purchase generates 50 percent of code given to the WINE project so all *NIX users will benefit. Codeweavers CrossOver for Linux gives you early access to new Microsoft Windows software applications especially PC games. That's the key difference. It makes it easy to install and run Windows software applications.

This is a good deal for those that need to run Windows applications and want to do it the easiest way possible.

I also have a subscription and feel it is well worth every cent.

I can install and run the following Microsoft Windows software applications using Codeweavers CrossOver for Linux 32 bit on OpenSuSE 64 bit Tumbleweed version 11.2.1:

TweetDeck
Amazon Kindle for PC
Google Picasa 3.9.x
Microsoft Office 2010 32 bit Professional Plus SP-1
Valve Corporation's Steam Client for Windows including Sid Meier's Civilization V with additional DLCs, Portal, and Sniper Elite PC games
Intuit Quicken Deluxe 2011 and 2012

I need Intuit Quicken Deluxe 2011 or 2012 and I need Amazon Kindle for PC to work. Microsoft Office 2010 32 bit is just pure gravy for me. I rarely play PC games, but it is nice to be able to play Civilization V, Portal, and Sniper Elite. I might purchase more PC games to play in the future.

Remember, Codeweavers is giving away CrossOver for Linux and Apple Macintosh OS X for free on Wednesday, October 31st, 2012 from 00:00 - 23:59 CST (-6 GMT). You have 24 hours to get it for free with 12 months of free support to troubleshoot specific technical issues. This is a $59.99 USD value for free. No strings attached except you only have October 31st, 2012 to get it for free with 12 months of free support.

Don't miss out on this opportunity. It only comes once every four years.

I already purchased a two year subscription, but I told my best friend who uses Ubuntu 12.04.1 64 bit LTS about this special deal and I hope that he will take advantage of it.

Don't be fool and ignore this special opportunity. Codeweavers CrossOver for Linux makes it dead simple and easy to install, configure, update, and run Microsoft Windows software applications native in GNU/Linux or Apple Macintosh OS X. You get it for free with 12 months of free support.

Thanks for the notice. I, for one, was not aware of this until you posted this. I've already notified a small business who bought some used Linux laptops (unaware that they couldn't run MS apps).

The only application I would like to use is WordPerfect. For free, I'm willing to try it and work with it. If it works, I'll consider subscribing when the year is up.

I have never liked emulators and programs like Crossover they are messy and generally perform well below par. If you need to use Windows Apps use them on Windows.

Wow this is awesome. I was planning on buying this in the next couple weeks anyway. Looks like I'm going to luck out.

Quick question, it says support for 12 months. I would still get to keep the software for life, right?

Thank you for sharing.

Yup, but they do have versions so it may happen that a specific piece of software will work or will work better with a new version that you will then have to purchase again. The 12 months means you get all the updates and newer versions for the year.

I can't speak for Crossover, but with Wine, it's hit and miss. Sometimes, what you're saying is true, but I've had some things run very well. I was pretty impressed with how well Office 2007 works in Wine.

About just using them in Windows, sometimes people don't want to have to reboot every time they want to use one or two apps, and boot back to Linux when they're done. If someone really likes Linux and their necessary apps work fine with Wine, there's no reason to have to do that. I appreciate all the work of the Wine devs and how they've made this possible for us with a lot of apps.

Edit: And for the record, Crossover is not just an easier version of Wine. It is based on Wine, but it is heavily modified with compatibility patches.

Dear Flock The Vote Participant;

Thank you for pledging to vote in the upcoming 2012 election. It turns out that our sysadmin secretly reprogrammed the pledge page algorithm to divert pledges into the bit bucket. Apparently, he didn’t want to melt our servers again, like we did 2008. So, when our CEO, Jeremy White, found out what was going on, he unilaterally launched the Software Giveaway doomsday device, locked the server room, and then ran screaming… watch what happened then at:
http://www.codeweavers.com/videos/flock2012end
None of us can find the keys to the server room. Which means that the Software Giveaway is on, whether we like it or not. That’s right: CrossOver. Absolutely FREE. For 24 hours. Here are the details:

What: Get your FREE copy of CrossOver, with 12 months support!
When: Wednesday, October 31, 2012, 00:00 - 23:59, CST (+6GMT)
Where: http://flock.codeweavers.com
Who: FREE to anyone on the planet

Thanks again for participating in our promotion, no matter what it ends up doing to our servers. And good luck in the elections, whoever you vote for.

Best Wishes,

The CodeWeavers Crew

You must watch that video. DO IT NAO

I just downloaded and installed it. Website was very responsive, it must help I'm in a different timezone!
Does anyone have a suggestion for a demo for a Windows game that I could download and try with Crossover?
(Nothing too taxing for my graphics card: Nvidia GT430. RAM and CPU plenty)

Disappointed so far.
Tried four applications:

IE 7, officially supported. Does not run, known issue:

http://www.codeweavers.com/support/tickets/browse/?ticket_id=887269

IE 8, community supported, does not run.

Photo album application, not officially supported, does not run.

Suunto Dive Manager. After running the installer, the "Windows Applications" menu entry has disappeared from the KDE menu.
Installed again, menu entry is back. Program does not run.

I am glad I did not have to spend money on this, or I would be asking for a refund by now. I'll just stick to VirtualBox.

CrossOver uses Wine and a lot of application/game settings that have been tweaked to run your Windows apps/games a lot better than using Wine alone... it also comes with some new features like bottles to save certain presets and settings in it's own space...

Rather harsh, I'd say it is ore likely a successful marketing ploy.

Not the first time this product has been marketed in this way, so it probably works :)

Hurricane Sandy knocked out power in my home town late Monday night so I am using my father's T-Mobile 4G smart phone to connect to the Internet to do the basics right now. I registered on the Flock the Vote website and they said that they will create a registration for me and send me an e-mail message so that I can get the free 12 month support entitlement. I plan to take advantage of that right away. That will mean that I will have 3 years of support entitlement.

I use Codeweavers CrossOver for Linux 32 bit version 11.2.1 quite heavily. I just added Spotify to my list of Microsoft Windows software applications and it works most of the time without too many problems.

This is magical technology that makes it quite bearable for people like myself that switched to OpenSuSE 64 bit Tumbleweed GNU/Linux full-time, but still need to install and run Microsoft Windows software applications native without rebooting the PC too often.

For those of you affected by Hurricane Sandy like myself and have no utilities working, Codeweavers has a special website with an extended offer linked above. This means that if you are affected by Hurricane Sandy and you can't get to the Internet to claim your free Codeweavers CrossOver for Linux or Apple Macintosh OS X today on October 31st, 2012, then you have another extended opportunity to do so on Thursday, November 1st, 2012. They will keep this offer going until everybody that is affected by Hurricane Sandy is back up and running with full utilities so they can take advantage of this great opportunity.

I downloaded it and installed Quicken 2010, which went flawlessly. It looks and acts just like it does in Win 7. I'm going to try it with a coupld more apps.

Now to my question: If I decide to buy at, or before, the end of the year of support can I use it on both my machines or is it just licensed to one machine?

installing e-sword on a stock Ubuntu Christian Edition turned out to be a little complicated. :) First, you need to open /etc/dansguardian/lists/bannedextensionlist and uncomment everything not just the .exe extension, as CrossOver won't install Esword. Of course, you can't download E-Sword to start with, if you don't uncomment the .exe extension.

Then, finally, once installed, to start the application apt-get install libjpeg62

For the third time, I'd appreciate knowing the version number of the files and if anyone has the time, md5sums. I am on a public network with javascript disabled and their sign in page appears to require it, so it is impossible for me to sign up with them at this time. Please. It doesn't take more than a few moments to check and report the file names, and post md5sums. Thank you. A gmail account would not offer me privacy, and no matter what email I have, the page does not load without javascript enabled which I cannot enable at this time.
