I just completed upgrading from 12.04 to 12.10 and now the icons that I had temporarily stored on my "desktop" are gone. They are still in the $HOME/Desktop directory but do not show on the Desktop screens. Where do I start looking for this problem?

Using "Gnome Classic" on AMD dual-core 3800 with 2GB RAM.

Thanks, but Right-Click on what? Right clicking on the open screen area does absolutely nothing. I can Right-Click on the Work-spaces and add or delete Work-spaces (I normally run up to 8 Work-spaces). I can Right-Click on icons in the top bar and either launch the application or edit it's menu entry. But Right-clicking on anything else does nothing.

12.10 has a new version of the Gnome Tweak Tool which you may have to install if you upgraded. You can add the icons from the desktop tab.

THAT FIXED IT!!!!!

Thank you very much. I had to install the gnome-tweak-tool, and it does not appear on any menu, but when launched by name from a terminal screen it works perfectly.

Thanks,
