blank screen when resume from suspend

I've just upgraded from 12.04 to 12.10 and for some reason it will not show the login screen when resuming from suspending. It just gives a blank, black screen but the mouse cursor is visible and moveable with the mouse.

I think these things are sometimes graphics card related. This a dell desktop with a nvidia GeForce 310 card. I'm also running Gnome 3.

Any suggestions?
