Hello --

How does one install Ubuntu 12.10 from a frach drive? As it turns out, I do not have room enough on a 700mb DVD to install it. So, the only media available is a 8gb flash drive. Please help.

A DVD has more capacity than 700 MB and would be fine to create a bootable 12.10 liveCD. You probably mean a CD? Depending on what operating system you are currently on, there are several methods to create a bootable USB flash drive:

Yes. I followed the link and followed instructions. I successfully created a bootable USB Flash Drive. But, then I found out that this computer refuses to boot on a flash drive. I will wait until I have money and buy some larger capacity DVDs. :)

I don't think an 8GB flash drive has enough space for 12.10. I kept getting the "insufficient space" message while writing the iso to the flash drive. I finally found an alternate installation named lubuntu (I guess it means light weight ubuntu) and it fit on the usb stick. The installer is crappy and the relase sucks but it's installed and will give me a decent challenge getting it to work right.

good luck
