Synaptic Mgr cannot connect 12.10

I am trying to get some pkgs using Synaptic. I am on the internet with a wired connection but Synaptic cannot make contact.

The problem shown is simply that it can't make contact through my router even though i am already on line with (for example) Firefox.

I solved all the 12.10 issues by going back to 12.04.

First time in 10 distros that I had to give up.
