Why make a "team"/"business"/"company" (however you would like to call it)?

We are 3 people, 2 programmers and one artist.. We have made 2 applications for Ubuntu, Wallch/Format Junkie, and we will keep developing more apps and make better the existing ones. We want to name a team so we can buy one domain with subpages for the appropriate application, to make a launchpad page and all of that.

But we lack the ability to name our "team". Any suggestion?

P.S We thought about TastyDevs but that is just unproffesional.. What we are gonna say at the feature when we search for a job.. we are from TastyDevs blablabla? they will laugh at us..

No they won't, I think it's a good name. If you like it, use it. Digital companies quite often have weird names. I even heard of ones called "ubuntu" and "red hat", how weird are those?

Even if it's weird name, think about the name of Fedora 17? :lolflag:

yes i agree with u.. the name must be a word not meaning something (like ubuntu) ..

but tastydevs..

1. uses the word tasty, unproffesional
2. uses the word devs.. have never saw the word devs in a company name..

That's a matter of opinion. Lots of things in tech have playful names. Why be serious all the time? Yahoo and Google are pretty ridiculous things to call a company really. Same goes for a lot of other companies like TV and movie production companies and record labels. Nothing wrong with having a name that suggests you're creative.

Besides, are you professionals? If you're just a bunch of enthusiastic like-minded people, why not have an enthusiastic name?

Personally I would sit down with your colleagues, get really drunk, play scrabble and see what comes up.

We are not but don't u ever think/hope u may become and then say, i wish i wouldn't have named my company this way..

That's a really good idea :guitar:

At the end of the day, what you create will define you, not your name.

Ubuntu does mean something.
Maybe you should look at words in other languages.

Ubuntu is a Nguni word which has no direct translation into English, but is used to describe a particular African worldview in which people can only find fulfilment through interacting with other people. Thus is represents a spirit of kinship across both race and creed which united mankind to a common purpose.

Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu has said "Ubuntu is very difficult to render into a Western language…It is to say. 'My humanity is caught up, is inextricably bound up, in what is yours'…"1

I'm sorry you did not like my first suggestion, here's another:
SimulantDesign (all one word)
I have not checked to see if it already exists. Good luck with your endeavours.

Using the word design seems a bit wrong.. imho..

They only ones i know is amanita-design.net

But in general i liked SimulantDesign as a name, but wouldn't it be nice to mean something? Simulant is relative to diamond , i think it is not the meaning i was searching for..

What i mean is for example amanita.. Amanita is a type of mushroom.. so their logo is a mushroom.. so simple.. but i cant have a diamond as the logo of the team..

Gambelia (or GambeliaDesigns) sounds cool and professional to me. Also, LizardDesigns, or something like that... On the other hand, what's wrong with having a diamond as a logo? That would look very professional too, IMO.

What would you choose?

SimulantDesign
or
GambeliaDesign
or
something with the word "Raven" in it..
or
something else?

For some reason, when I saw that line, I thought, "Three! Two! One!" as a team name. But that was on the fly.

I'm full of great ideas:

1. CLI: Miami [or whatever your location]
2. CodeDeLayHeehoo (freebie jingle: that's two birds with one stone!)
3. Code Red
4. Crucible Tech
5. WAP App Fap
6. Umbrella Design (it's waterproof and an easy logo, umbrellas save you from the rain, in this case metaphorically)

Found one, MelloriDesign..
mellori is the latin word of little raven (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Corvus_mellori)

i really like it, plus the logo will be cool and easy to make, something like this
