Is there any way to get the latest released gnome packages (currently, gnom3 3.6.1) in ubuntu. I am talking about the complete gnome stack, not just gnome shell etc. The gnome remix has only a small set of applications in the latest version. Nautilus, GCC, totem, etc. are old version. Gnome 3 team ppa do not have Gnome Control Center, ibus etc.

The ricotz ppa is a testing repo and contain the latest development git branch, not the released versions. Jeremy bitchas ppa contain the ibus, but is also seem to be testing version, and control center is not working in his ppa.

There should certainly be a middle ground between 3.4.2 repo versions and the latest weekly updated testing repos. Getting the released versions of all the packages is very basic, minimum, first step in having a better integration between gnome and ubuntu but is ignored even by ubuntu gnome developers.

Can anyone help on setting up a ppa for released versions? I do not have any knowhow but if someone can help we will at least try something.

......Gnome 3 team ppa do not have Gnome Control Center, ibus etc.

Control center will not make it into gnome 3 team ppa, as it might brake unity.

I wonder if my first post is hidden or something!

That's what happens when you skim through the post so fast :P

I think if you want a really pure GNOME 3 experiences, you should not be using Ubuntu who has heavily modified GNOME in many ways. Fedora is the way to go. Wait for the next release of Fedora, which is in December and is probably (just my guess) the first major Linux distro that uses pure GNOME 3.6.

I was using fedora till 3.6 is released. Now I don't want to wait till december (or go back to 3.4).

On the otherhand, the whole purpose of gnome remix (which I am using) is to provide vanilla gnome experience. It goes so far enough to include gnome recommended applications (web instead of firefox, abiword, gnumeric etc. instead of libreoffice, software instead of USC) to provide that vanilla experience. But when it comes to providing the 3.6 versions of core applications, they do not seem much concerned.

Don't do that. It's a bad idea.
