I just upgraded from 12.04 to 12.10 (online) I have a Radeon 6970 in my machine IT won't boot with the 3.5 kernel (blank purple screen)

It will boot with 3.0.17 since the fglrx driver is not loaded - but hence no hardwareacceleration or watching moving images...

I also have to boot into gnome cos in standard unity mode there's no menubar.

I can set my system to use the open Xorg driver from there but this poses another problem. When i boot into 3.5 my fan will run amok higest setting or no regulation with the open xorg driver - which is really noicy....

So my question is this what's the easiest work-aroud for my issue? Fan control with xorg-open or is there a way I can get the fglrx driver to work?

PS have tried both fglrx and fglrx-updated - not that it probably matter atm - both result in blank purple screen upon boot
