Recently I realized that, being an open source, ubuntu may facilitate me to make user interface as my own way and I can do works however I want. Also I think its possible to make systems as my own way that will not accessible by others(other OS or persons). Can anyone please tell me if I'm right or wrong?
Thank you

You can do whatever you want with your system.
But note, that if you try to redistribute your revised system, you'll need to release the code you may have implemented within the system which has altered the code of any open-sourced licensed code. Most notably any code licensed under the GPL.
