I like Rhythmbox but how do you change it from being the default player in 12.04?
I'd prefer to select Movie player, VLC or Audacious instead because they load quicker and don't save the music files you play.

Go to System Settings > Details > Default Applications.

You can also set the default per file type.
Simply right click on the media file, go to properties and then go to the open with tab, choose the program you'd like to open that particular file type(.ogg, mp3, or what have you) then click set as default. And now any time you click on that file type, the program you set for it will open by default.

Go to System Settings > Details > Default Applications.

Tried that and it doesn't work.
Rhythmbox remains default no matter what other player is chosen.

This worked!
Whatever other player selected became the new default player.
Didn't even know this selection option was there.
