View Full Version : [ubuntu] Unity won't start after nvidia installation

My computer has a Geforce video card. It ran well under 12.04. I upgraded to 12.10 and all was well. But then I decided to install the nvidia driver rather than have the standard one. Trouble now is that the Unity strip at the side of the screen has gone. I am left with just a few icons that I put on the screen. As a consequence I can't run any programs except the ones on the screen - Libre Office and a couple of games.

Oh, and I have tried reverting to 12.04 to see if it will do any good, but the Pangolin has forgotten my password and won't let me in.

Any ideas, please? Where do I go from here? I don't want to trash the disk and start again because it's a dual boot system with Windows 7 (which is still working). Help!

PS Am on to this forum via Windows 7!
