installation failure

hello ive a little problem here

ive been using ubuntu 12.04 for a long time and im using only linux on my computer. lately my system began to fail downloading some necessary updates -but only few!- then i decided to clean it up and reinstall the same. i have my ubuntu CD i succesfully used the last time, and made two other new copies on different computers. but when i go through, it boots but does not correctly install cause then i have my system starting, the desktop blocks, the screen is like what a 20year old TV would be. :/ yes true story

any guesses?

It could be a graphics card problem.

When you get to the Try Ubuntu page, press F6. You should get a pop-up, select nomodeset. If you don't get a pop-up, type a space and "nomodeset" without the quotes then press enter.
