I am A Noob when it comes to Ubuntu 12.04 I have just installed it and cant get past the purple screen on Boot. I have no network so i cant connect to the net with that computer. But I think it might be a graphics problem so i downloaded the driver for my ATI 6990 and saved it to a USB. but this is useless since i cant get into ubuntu to use it. Please Help Remember I am A Noob to Ubuntu "first time user well 0 since I cant get it going"

Moved to your own thread.
While the title of the old thread was similar to your issue, that user had nVidia and the solution was a RAID setting, not related to video issues.
I use nVidia and am not familiar with your video card. But I still prefer to install drivers from Ubuntu if at all possible.
Have you tried nomodeset, or other boot parameters to get to a limited boot. Or the recovery mode or second line in grub menu?
