Hope that someone can help please as I have sucessfully installed v12.04 in a VM running on XP and thought I would try it on an old Compaq Armada 1750 ( P2 333 Mhz 640K). This is my 1st experience of Linux.

Have made a bootable CD but the installation freezes at the line -

22.209754 [<c15acd7e>] kernel_thread_helper +0x6/0x10

I have attached a screenshot for the rest of the screen as well.

Many thanks

My guess it that the machine is just too old for 12.04. A P2 processor is a bit dated... ;)

You might like to try Lubuntu on it. Failing that, there are some other non-ubuntu flavours around that are specifically intended for old hardware. I believe Puppy Linux is one, for instance.

Are you sure this is a Pentium 2? If yes, the minimum requirements for Ubuntu are higher:

Many thanks - tried both Lubuntu and Puppy but both had problems. Guess the PC is just too old for these so will be trying Damm Small Linux - the website says it will run on a 486.
