How can I stop launching multiple instances of same program in Kubuntu 12.04.1.
For instance, if I am playing some song in VLC and in due course of playing if I click
another song, again a new VLC window opens up and starts playing simultaneously
two songs. How can I stop these issue?

Thanks but how can I do for other applications also such as Dragon Player.
I did not have this issue ever with Ubuntu ever. But this is strange in Kubuntu.

Dragon player is meant to be a simple video player. If you have VLC, there is little to no reason to also use dragon player.

As far as I could tell, dragon player version 4.10 and newer support single-instance-application. Check your version number on Kubuntu 12.04.1, as your version of DP may not have an option for single instances.

"This is not ubuntu or kubuntu specific, but is application specific."

Thanks cc7gir, to be honest I don't use either of these applications.
