I'd like to apply for an Ubuntu membership.

Here is my wiki page: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/kevquirk

Here is my Launchpad page: https://launchpad.net/~kevquirk

Thanks :)

Really? It says in the guide (link below) to include this detail. Well, even if I don't I suppose its best to have it and not need it than need it and not have it. :)

I saw your posts and they are very high quality. However I'm not sure about it with the amount of beans that you have. Maybe write more posts then apply?

Hey smartboyhw,

I appreciate that I don't have many 'beans' but surely the quality of my posts is far more important than the quantity of them. Anyone could get many hundreds of beans by simply going into threads and saying "have you tried rebooting it?" that doesn't necessarily mean that they are making a valid contribution to the community.

I'd rather have ten good posts under my belt than a thousand rubbish ones.

Also, I've not been as active on here in the past as I would have liked to have been because I have been supporting the project in numerous other ways. Setting up and establishing my blog (jingiblog.blogspot.co.uk (http://jingiblog.blogspot.co.uk/), which later was 'upgraded' to refugeeks.com (http://refugeeks.com) due to popularity), writing chapters for the Ubuntu Manual project, writing for OMG! Ubuntu!, being a forum moderator for the PinguyOS forums (my screen name is KevQuirk and I have hundreds of 'beans' on there :)) and also designing & maintaining the PinguyOS website for them.

I haven't bothered mentioning promoting Ubuntu to friends and family and supporting them whilst using it. I've also deployed 3 Ubuntu servers for customers saving them money and feeding this back into the community by way of paid for support from Canonical.

Then there is the numerous donations I make to projects. Whilst I can't help from a development perspective I can help with some money here and there to help the dev's - hopefully this will change over the next year or so as I want to start learning how to code.

I am extremely active in the community and quite frankly a little bit obsessed with Ubuntu ha ha. But it's very much a labour of love - I've even decorated my living room in Ubuntu colours! Don't believe me, take a look at this image:

Or this post on my blog:

http://refugeeks.com/RefuGeeks/2012/06/my-ubuntu-living-roon/

Hopefully all of this 'evidence' goes too prove that although I haven't been as active here on the Ubuntu Forums as I would have liked to have been (although that's changing now as I'm not currently working on other projects) I am still a very active member of the community.

Thanks for listening to my ramblings :)

Sat here with a coffee in my Ubuntu mug and keeping warm in my Ubuntu hoodie (that's not a joke either! haha).

Even if I'm not successful, thanks for considering me anyway. :)

Good luck with the application, jingaling!

Welcome, no need to provide your wiki or Launchpad.

Read the requirements for membership before correcting people on them...

My particular specialisation within the team is Microsoft technologies, email & networking.

Good luck with the application!!!! I am not +1ing you though. I would excpect more bug reports on launchpad and maybe being more active here :)

ha ha you figured me out hakermania!

As I said in my previous post, I think there are more ways to contribute to the community than having a tonne of 'beans' in the forums and filing bugs on launchpad.

However I do understand were you're coming from.

Thanks,

Jing

Please do not take this as either a -1 nor a +1 - it is not either at this stage :)

Membership via the forum is for forum contributions - membership via EMEA's is for any contribution :)

Quantity of beans is certainly not the primary measure in my opinion - contribution and quality of said are.

This is my opinion and not that of the other admins.

Thanks Elfy, I totally agree. I am a strong believer in quality is more important than quantity.

I realise that my contributions to the forums aren't as substantial as others who have been members as long as I have. All I ask is to be considered, if it doesn't work out then so be it - I'll just try again in a 6 months when I have more beans. :)

Hi

Gaining membership through the forums requires a "significant and sustained contribution" to the forums themselves. Gaining Ubuntu membership through the membership boards requires "significant and sustained contributions to Ubuntu".

Since your contributions are wide ranging, you may want to consider applying for membership via the Membership Boards route.

https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Membership

Quality of posts, of course, is more important than quantity and there are other things one can do for the forums other than post support threads. This will all be taken into consideration when the Forum Council look at your application.

Good luck.

Welcome :)

You'll be considered in just the same way as anyone else has and will be of course.

I appreciate the info NothingSpecial. If I'm unsuccessful through the forum council then I will try through the board.

Thanks again.

I am a member of both the Forum Council and Membership Board. You are welcome to apply via either route, but please only try one at a time. Applications are often reviewed before the meeting themselves and it wouldn't be fair to waste peoples time.

Of course not s.fox. I will only process one application at one time. The last thing I want to do is waste anyone's time.
