View Full Version : [ubuntu] Is there a negative impact when using cross-de apps?

Hi there everyone,

I've begun using KDE on my Ubuntu install, but due to testing many de's, I've acquired a lot of duplicate-use apps, like multiple terminal apps, 4 audio players, etc..

My first question is this: If I run an app in KDE that was developed and intended to be run in Gnome(like banshee), what are the negative impacts? It seems as if I'm loading libraries and databases that otherwise wouldn't need to be run if I were using a KDE based app, but is there usually enough of a negative impact to try to steer away from contaminating the waters of your chosen DE?

My second question: Is there an easy way to find which apps are tied to which DE's? I'm trying to clean up the main menu and there's a lot of times I don't know what to keep. I'm having to search every application on the web and there's a bunch.

Thanks for your time!
