Hello all,

As most people have noticed we implemented tag filtering in the new Dapper Section and various other parts of the forums community. I would like to ask for some input as to what the users think of this feature and if they find it usefull or just confusing.

We are trying to collect data on this forum feature as we plan for future upgrades and enchancements. Once we feel we have enough information this thread will be locked and closed.

They're a good idea, but the forum also looks rather ugly with them - they're too wide and they don't fit in with the graphical look of the rest of the forum. If they're to stay, each label should be shortened in some way, or perhaps made into an icon - so for Ubuntu we use the Ubuntu icon, Xubuntu uses a little Xubuntu icon, etc.

good idea. just make them unobtrusive and simple enough for people to use correctly and it'll help considerably.

Also there should be more emphasis on making accurate thread titles in the first place.

Agreed on the accurate thread titles.

How can accurate thread titles be implemented. this seems like a way to clean up all the known clutter on the boards.

more mods exercising the power to change thread titles and move threads is the most obvious one.
A report system may not be possible to implement but it's not a terrible idea.

A thread title creation template as part of the submission form would be another.
For example, to extend what is being done with the "[general] All Ubuntu 6.06" tags: add the type of issue being discussed, such as graphics, sound, input devices,non-core programs, etc.

This may not sit terribly well with the organisation of the forums being divided into areas such as games-hardware-beginners-desktop but maybe it is time to change the organisation. Plenty of threads end up in places they shouldn't really be. I've seen tech support threads in Testimonials. Nice that that can happen, but it makes it harder to find.

There should also be some way of forcing a search of the wiki and the forums for buzzwords found in the original post before it is submitted proper.
